In the 1980s, a Syrian Druze family living in Salamiyah is subjected to an armed attack.
It results in the killing of the father and mother and the rape of the daughter, in a scene in which human cruelty is revealed to its utmost extent.
There was a terrible lack of humanity in it. The only witness to the massacre was “Salman”, a five-year-old child, whose innocent mind could not comprehend what had happened to his family.
He wonders: Why were his parents killed? Why did the three men violate his sister's body?
At this juncture, the lives of the two surviving brothers begin to take different directions, each of them separated into different paths, families, and countries.
They grew up, but the obsession with revenge and meeting after separation remained the most important goal for both of them, no matter how long or short the time.
The novel “Birds of Al-Anbashi” presents a unique reading of the Syrian reality with its various orientations and intellectual frameworks.
