At the turn of the century, new technologies highlighted the power of software, transforming business processes and digital communication, and leading to the rise of digital platforms. Companies, especially in tech, began viewing their world as ecosystems rather than industries. This shift prompted me to explore competitive strategies based on ecosystems. My goals were to develop new frameworks with the same depth as industry frameworks and make them relevant to industrial companies with value chain models, not just tech companies with platform models. As digital forces like IoT and data power grow, the shift from an industrial to a digital mindset is urgent. This book lays the foundation for future competitive strategy.
